Departments Council – Modern Specialized University

 Departments Council: It is the body that supervises the administrative, scientific, academic and research affairs of the departments and is responsible for taking all means to ensure that the departments fulfill their mission.

Powers and Tasks of the Departments Council

      The Department Council is responsible for the following tasks:

  • Developing the department’s study plan and making proposals and recommendations that would develop the competencies and enhance the capabilities of its members and their assistants and determine its needs for teaching assistants and technicians.
  • Establishing arrangements related to the preparation of curricula and distributing courses to faculty members.
  • Developing examination systems and distributing its work to the examination committees and approving the quarterly and annual results.
  • Recommending the approval of the description, evaluation and updating of programs and courses.
  • Expressing opinion on the appointment, promotion and sabbatical of faculty members, the appointment of associate members and their scholarships, as well as expressing opinion on the appointment of supervisors of scientific theses and the committees to discuss and judge them.
  • Directing the approval of textbooks and references in the department.
  • Developing a scientific research map for students and faculty members.
  • Forming any permanent or temporary committees from among the faculty members to carry out work related to the department.
  • Discussing fixed topics on a monthly basis as follows.
  • Discussing the implementation of the previous minutes.
  • Discuss the extent to which the academic staff members implement their monthly and quarterly plans.
  • Discussing the academic follow-up reports (theoretical courses, practical courses, laboratory training, and field training).
  • Discussing academic counseling.
  • Discussing community service.
  • Discussing student activities. Addressing stumbling blocks on a regular basis.
  • Evaluating faculty members according to the approved models of quality.
  • Nominating faculty members and department employees to attend training courses, scientific seminars, or internal or external conferences.
  • Consider any issues related to academic work presented by the head of the department.
  • Discussing the department’s contribution to community participation.
  • Submitting the plan for the needs of tenured and contracted faculty members.
  • Discussing issues related to faculty members and students referred by the head of the department.
  • Proposing a plan for the construction and rehabilitation of halls, laboratories, and equipment.
  • Consider any matter referred to it by the head of the department that falls within the jurisdiction of the board.
