The Technology and Language Revolution: An AI System for Automatic Recognition of Yemeni Sign Language

Today, the Information Technology Department hosted a public defense for a unique graduation project for the Applied Bachelor’s degree, representing a significant step forward in integrating technology with social responsibility by adapting artificial intelligence algorithms to serve people with special needs.

The discussion committee consisted of a select group of specialized academics who praised the scientific and practical value of the project, namely:

Prof. Mujahid Al-Jabr – Chair.
Prof. Adel Al-Shimiri – Discussant.
Dr. Yahya Al-Samawi – Supervisor.
Dr. Fawaz Al-Ghafari – Supervisor.

The students presented their outstanding research project titled:
“Yemeni Sign Language Recognition System (YSLR) Using Artificial Intelligence”.

The project presented an innovative technical solution aimed at breaking down the communication barrier between the deaf and mute and the surrounding community by developing a system capable of understanding and analyzing Yemeni sign language gestures and converting them into highly accurate data, relying on the latest machine learning and computer vision technologies.

During the discussion session, the project received the committee’s approval, reflecting the exceptional effort in scientific methodology and mastery of programming tools and practical implementation.

The committee emphasized that this project is not merely a graduation requirement, but rather a cornerstone of a national initiative serving a vital segment of Yemeni society through the use of future-oriented technology.

For its part, the discussion committee praised the level of perseverance and commitment demonstrated by the researchers in addressing previous research gaps and designing an efficient and accurate system, emphasizing that the college takes pride in such outputs that the college takes pride in such achievements, which apply technical solutions to address humanitarian challenges.
