Nursing students organized campaign about diabetes and high blood pressure
Sunday, 10 Shawwal 1447 AH (corresponding to March 29, 2026 AD)
Today, the university’s courtyards and hallways turned into a bustling hub of activity, as first-year nursing students launched an intensive awareness campaign targeting their peers from various disciplines to raise awareness about diabetes and high blood pressure, as well as ways to prevent them among young people.
Dressed in white uniforms that reflect the profession’s identity, the “future nurses” succeeded in breaking down the barrier of academic formality, offering their peers vital advice on the dangers of the “silent killers” (diabetes and high blood pressure) and how to avoid their causes, which can creep into the fast-paced and stressful university lifestyle.
Highlights of the Campaign:
The Dual Screening Station: This station saw a large turnout of students seeking immediate blood sugar and blood pressure screenings, along with detailed explanations of the results and referrals for medical follow-up for those with elevated readings.
Correcting Misconceptions: Leaflets were distributed explaining the differences between types of diabetes, the symptoms of high and low blood pressure, and debunking common myths circulating among young people about these conditions.
The “Healthy Lifestyle” Challenge: This station focused on offering healthy food alternatives to fast food and soft drinks, while encouraging reduced consumption of salt and sugar and highlighting the importance of exercising on campus.
Psychological and Physiological Awareness: Highlighting the link between psychological stress and tension during exam periods and elevated blood sugar and blood pressure levels in the body, and introducing simple techniques for managing stress.
“Our goal is for change to start here, at the heart of the university, so that every student becomes a health ambassador in their home and community.” – One of the student organizers of the campaign.
The event concluded to widespread acclaim from both faculty and students, who affirmed that the involvement of first-year students in such field activities boosts their professional confidence and hones their communication skills very early in their academic careers.
